they love or compete with others who are just as obsessed with it as they are. This myopic vision is impacted even more when an individual is forced to endure weeks or even months off the field for an injury that is looked upon as both nuisance and unfair. Messner’s study is based on his interviews with thirty former male athletes from different high school, college and/or professional leagues. Messner’s text is important in its feminist look at the masculinity in sports and in addition to the reinforcement of homophobia which has also been challenged with the acceptance of gays within organized sports.

Russian Popular Culture During The 1980 Olympic Games In Moscow
[ send me this paper ]
18 pages in length. The overwhelming political implications of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games turned this usually festive competition into a bureaucratic battle zone; however, this was hardly the first or last time that international politics invaded the supposed sanctity of the Olympic Games. When the student considers the myriad issues related to the 1980 Moscow Olympics, he or she will want to more closely examine the reason for Moscow's application as a host city in the first place; the USSR's reaction to having the Olympics in its backyard; and how international coverage varied from journalist to journalist, given the press's inherent propensity for misinformation.
