Authority Vested In And The Significance Of "Church Order" In The History Of Christianity
[ send me this paper ]

Baptism of Holy Spirit
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay/research paper that discusses the meaning of baptism of the Holy Spirit in contemporary Christianity. Many Christians today promote the concept that "speaking in tongues" is proof-positive of "baptism of the Holy Spirit" (Williams 84). This brings up the questions as to whether or not those who have not spoken in tongues are without the Holy Spirit (Williams 84). There are dedicated Christians on both side of this debate. Basically, opinion on this issue falls into two camps. The Pentecostals or charismatic movement maintains that gifts of the Holy Spirit that the apostles experienced at Pentecost are still being experienced by Christians today. The opposite camp believes that the gifts of the Holy Spirit ended in the first century of Christian history. Both positions are discussed. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Barrett/New Testament Background
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page book review of C.K. Barrett's The New Testament Background: Selected Documents (1956). For the theology student, the study of New Testament scriptures also involves consideration of the wealth of collected wisdom and experience that is recorded in ancient literature, as these works describe the "history and thought of the world in which the Church was born" (Barrett xvii). Theology students hear constant references to this compendium of knowledge from their professors without usually encountering these works first hand, as most students never read these works themselves. Considering these facts, C.K. Barrett concluded that theology students need a guide to ancient world literature that aids them in regards to New Testament studies. Consequently, Barrett compiled such a text, which cites a variety of ancient documents that--collectively--offer a comprehensive picture for the modern student of the ancient world. Basic Philosophical Differences between Zen, Buddhism and Taoism
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper describing some of the basic differences and relationships between Buddhism, Taoism and Zen. The differences between Buddhism, Taoism and Zen are based on the level of definition allowed within each belief. Buddhism based on the life of Buddha around 500 B.C. and has defined truths, paths, precepts, and jewels in order for individuals to eventually reach Enlightenment through meditation. Buddhism has certain doctrines which take into account individuals’ treatment of others and themselves in order to proceed along the Eightfold Path to Enlightenment. Taoism, is a much more loosely based discipline which is based on writings of Lao Tzu around 600 B.C. and is considered as “The Watercourse Way” or the flowing of nature. The flow of Nature and the ultimate truth, or Tao, cannot be explained in words but does contain certain concepts related to the balance within the universe. For every yin (negative) force which exists, there too is a yang (positive) force. Zen is one step further past defined concepts. The concept of Zen is void of all preconceptions and is not dependent on doctrines, duality or even that those who practice Zen be members of Zen Buddhism as founded by the monk Bodhidharma in the 6th century A.D. Meditation is considered as essential for the basis of all three concepts of Buddhism and the path to Enlightenment; Taoism in the concept of Tao; and essentially for Zen where the practice of sitting meditation (zazen) is devoid of all other concepts and definitions. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

His basic argument against religion, focusing specifically on the dogmas and rigid rules of the Catholic church, is that religion has retarded both the progress and happiness of the human race. Blood Sacrifice In The Judeo-Christian Religion
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Can a sin be forgiven? Should it be? Is it the guilt a sinner attempts to rid from himself, or is it a true sense of regret that drives him to seek out forgiveness? Inasmuch as sin is definitive and a proverbial slap in the face of God, how can it be forgiven? In response to mankind's sinning ways, atonement was required in order to escape the wrath of God and regain His favor. Repenting one's sins and abating His anger, which is tempered by love for His people, took its form in blood sacrifices; however, these offerings were not so strict as to require human blood, but rather He was appeased with the presentation of sacrificial animals who gave their life for Man's sinful ways. Book of Jonah
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that summarizes and discusses the Book of Jonah from the Old Testament. Often in life, individuals are confronted by tasks that they would rather not do. The task may seem to be called for, that is, something that would help others, such as relaying the message of God to people who clearly need it, but people are prone to hesitate and rationalize why they walk away from such scenarios. The Book of Jonah portrays precisely such a situation. Examination of this narrative shows clearly where the responsibility of the conscientious person lies. No additional sources cited.
