Birth of a Nation/Cinematic History
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper that discusses The Birth of a Nation (1915, directed by D.W. Griffith for Epoch; screenplay by D.W. Griffith, Frank E. Woods and Thomas Dixon), which is a landmark film in cinematic history as it was the first important feature-length film, which had a tremendous impact on the nascent industry, as it changed the demographic makeup of film audiences (The Birth of a Nation, 1995). Up to this time, films were generally considered to be a working-class entertainment, but Birth of a Nation opened cinema to a much wider audience, one that had previously preferred only the legitimate theatre (The Birth of a Nation, 1995). Nevertheless, considering Birth of a Nation is also problematic due to this film’s overt racism. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Birth of a Nation/Racism in 2 Scenes
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page essay that discusses this film. Director D.W. Griffith’s “The Birth of a Nation” (1915) debuted as “The Clansman” in California, but was retitled for the world premier in New York three months later (Dirks). While this film is acknowledged to be a cinematic masterpiece by the American Film Institute, it is also recognized as being overly racist in content, as it glorifies and justifies the brutal vigilantism of the Ku Klux Klan during the Reconstruction era (Dirks). The following examination looks at the issue of racism in “The Birth of a Nation” in 2 scenes. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Blanche and Stanley’s Power Struggle in Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper with a 1 page outline discussing the power struggle between Blanche and Stanley in Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”. In Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” a vicious power struggle occurs between Stanley and Blanche. Ultimately they are battling over the love and approval of Stella although in the end neither seems to consider Stella’s feelings in the climax of the play which would seem to indicate that it was the gaining of the power over each other which was more vital than Stella’s approval. Williams was said to have included sexual, social and racial tensions throughout his plays to reflect aspects he had witnessed or experienced in life. Blanche and Stanley’s power struggle is reflective of those perceived in the post World War II era when neither side could be considered entirely good or entirely bad and the assets over which they fought, in this case Stella, were no better off at the end of the struggle than at the beginning.

Blockbuster Movies And Independent Films: Compare/Contrast
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Blockbuster movies may draw in millions upon millions of revenue dollars over and above their independent - or Indie - counterparts, but that is not because they are intrinsically better in quality, plot or underlying message; rather, it only reflects the manner by which blockbusters conform to cookie-cutter expectations of a myopic audience that refuses to push the envelope or go beyond its comfort zone. Indies, on the other hand, take up where blockbusters leave off and fill in the blanks that ultimately render these films as having substance, value and a connection to real life. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

“Folk-Rock”
[ send me this paper ]
This 8 page report discusses singer and songwriter
Bob Dylan and is role as one of the major figures in American
folk and rock music. It is important to understand that Dylan
came to prominence in the midst of truly significant social,
political, and ideological change in the United States. One
critic wrote in 1998 that: “Bob Dylan couldn't wait for the music
to change. He couldn't be only part of the change. He was the
change itself. Unlike other songwriters who voiced their politics
through their music, Dylan garnered widespread popularity as his
words seemed to echo the sentiments of teens of thousands of
thousands of the young “rebels” of the 1960s. He was thought of
as both a musical and political visionary and apparently viewed
himself in equally epic proportions. Bibliography lists 8
