“I Was a Teenage Werewolf” (1957)
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses
the 1957 movie “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” directed by Gene
Fowler, Jr., produced by Samuel Z. Arkoff, and starring the actor
who went on to become “Little Joe,” “Pa Ingalls” and “Jonathon
Smith,” Michael Landon. It seems that in 1957, the idea of a
teenage boy turning into a monster at the hands of an evil doctor
was as far as American imagination could stretch. In a number of
ways, the movie was a comedy, a horror film, a teenage angst
movie, and even something of a social commentary. Bibliography
lists 3 sources.

musical best. While the movie, Elvis’ third of 33, is discussed
so are the political and cultural aspects of the backdrop of the

phenomenon and, in fact, still is. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

“Near Dark” and the Threat of the Monster
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report
discusses the 1987 horror film “Near Dark” and how it relates to
film critic Robin Wood’s assertion that the formula for horror
films is “normality is threatened by the Monster” -- whoever and
whatever that monster might be. There is much more to this movie,
directed by Kathryn Bigelow, than one would initially assume.
Perhaps the single most disconcerting aspect of “Near Dark” is
that it is nothing like what any member of the audience has come
to expect from a “traditional” vampire movie.

“Nixon, The Man, The Myth”: A Review of the Oliver Stone Movie
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page review of the Oliver Stone movie starring Anthony Hopkins, Joan Allen, Powers Boothe, James Woods and J.T. Walsh. The reviewer contends that, as unfortunately the case in this movie, Nixon is most often remembered for his weaknesses more so than for his accomplishments. Never-the-less, while it is the more questionable aspects of Nixon’s life which Stone chooses to capitalize upon, in doing so he has brought to life many other aspects of Richard Nixon which too many of us have forgotten. In all, in fact, Oliver Stone’s film is an excellent introduction to a very complex man. While Stone emphasizes some of Nixon’s more sordid moments in politics, he provides enough biographical detail to make his movie not only interesting but useful. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

exists between working class, feminist, environmental and Latino

and banned from the public until the late 1960s. The movies
writers, producer, and director had all been blacklisted and the

“Singin’ In the Rain”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the 1952
movie “Singin’ in the Rain” starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds,
and Donald O’Connor. The paper considers the various aspects of
the film but focuses on a singular “mise en scène” in which
Reynolds and Kelly dance together on an empty stage against an
artificially created and romantic sunset. Handsome Don takes shy,
yet independent, Kathy on to an empty sound stage and the magic
begins in which an entire mise en scène, in the most classic
sense of both the photographic and the theatrical concept
unfolds. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

powerful because it tells the story of actual events as it
presents an outline of the Algerian insurgence against French
colonial forces in the 1950s. “A Door to the Sky” tells the story
of a young woman, Nadia, who returns from Paris to the ancient
