Change In The South After World War II
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The end of World War II brought
significant change with regard to racial inclusion.
Clearly, this was a time for rebirth, inasmuch as the South was experiencing a renewal like never before. According to David Goldfield, author of "Promised Land : The South Since 1945," this historic period marks one of the most progressive eras for the South. Even with such social and
economic advancement, Goldfield contends that the South has, nonetheless, faced ongoing challenges since 1945, not the least of which continue to be environmental pollution, urban sprawl, socioeconomic disparities and the erosion of its
distinctive culture. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Chicago Mayor R. J. Daley
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Richard J. Daley held Chicago's mayoral position from 1955 to 1976 and remains one of the windy city's most famous elected officials to date. While this distinction has earned him a place within the annals of Chicago's history, the manner by which Daley approached his mayoral tasks has long been considered less than equitable to all racial and ethnic groups. The difference of fifty years is clearly illustrated by the way that blacks accommodated to Chicago politics during the 1950s, whereas Chicago politics had to ultimately accommodate to blacks during the 1970s. Clearly, the social aspect represented the greater significance in Chicago's development under Daley's reign. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
