Critical Incident Stress: EMS Personnel And Firefighters
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Reaction to critical incidents, such as tragedies, deaths, serious injuries, hostage and/or threatening situations, require the human being to respond in a way that intensifies the inherent stress related to Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Those within the rescue field are prone to inordinate levels of stress over and above many other professions; as a result, extremely traumatic or overwhelming situations sometimes spawn a damaging psychological reaction called Critical Incident Stress. Those who are involved with events that are far more serious than others will attend Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) as a means by which to diffuse some of the internal emotional buildup caused by post-traumatic stress, but sometimes that is not enough to address the extent to which an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or firefighter is suffering. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Critique of "Pressure Ulcers: Prevalence, Staging, and Assessment of Risk"
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page review of a research study seeking to determine the usefulness of standard risk assessment scales. As pressure ulcers are increasingly common with advancing age, use of the Barthel Index could prove to be of particular appropriateness. The clinical significance of the study is that both the Norton and Braden scales are useful among the general hospital population and provide an indication of risk that is reliable enough to be used as the basis of prevention strategies. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Cross Training in the Rural Maternity Unit
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page proposal discussing an organizational change to make better use of available human resources. Rosewood Hospital is a very small, rural hospital facing staff utilization difficulties. The entire maternity ward consists of only two beds, but the hospital maintains a staff of two full-time and two part-time maternity RNs. It would seem that this is quite enough, and it is in the absence of the need on the part of any maternity nurse to miss a scheduled shift. The purpose here is to propose an organizational change involving the cross training of another nurse. This solution meets maternity’s short-notice needs while yet allowing the non-maternity functions of the hospital to remain fully staffed during training. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Cultural Aspects of Tuberculosis Along the US-Mexico Border
[ send me this paper ]
An 11 page paper discussing cultural beliefs that may inhibit successful treatment and prevention of tuberculosis along the border region between the US and Mexico. TB is much more prevalent among the Mexican population, and particularly among those born in Mexico rather than in the US. Public health care largely has been ineffective in reducing the number of new TB cases along the border region, but those individuals in public health who are working to seek out those in need of health care appear to be having a positive effect. Increased economic opportunity likely will result in greater numbers of individuals seeking out health care for themselves and their families. Cultural Needs of Chinese Women in Childbirth
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page research paper that discusses cultural competence in regards to the nursing needs of Chinese women and women of Chinese extraction. According to census figures, the demographic nature of the American populace is becoming increasing culturally diverse. Cultural Variations in End of Life Care
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of the variation in the way we as families tend to the needs of our dying family members. The author notes that while at one time in U.S. history all families, irrespective of culture, took an active role in dying needs of their loved ones, today many of us have turned that responsibility over to health care professionals. There are, however, exceptions to this observation. This paper contends that the closer an individual is to the traditional dictates of their culture, the more likely they are to maintain a strong family vigilance. African American, Chinese American, and Muslim American cultures are assessed in regard to this contention. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
Filename: PPdeath3.rtf

Culturally Competent Care In Psychiatric Hospitals
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. It is not possible to live in a world without diversity for the simple reason that there are far too many types of people to expect everyone to adhere to the same set of social, political or cultural standards. Patients are individuals no matter their origin and, as such, have different needs based upon their cultural roots; implementing the tenets of diversity serves to unite – while at the same time respect - those differences. This, however, is not always an applied perspective when it comes to culturally competent care appropriate for a psychiatric hospital; where nurturing and compassion typically hold sway in health care environments, a common assertion is both within and outside of the industry is how far too many nurses fail to incorporate culturally sensitivity into their dealings with patients. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
Filename: TLCcultcare.rtf
