an embedded ID/serial number in each chip. The ID number will more accurately identify the system owner and offer greater protection. The ID chips were designed in an effort to address anti theft and anti fraud concerns, and the growing security issues surrounding e-commerce. There's been so much uproar over the potential for privacy infringement that Intel says it will provide software for users to mm off the serial number. The concern about privacy is real, though it may be being blown out of proportion. Intel has not dealt directly with the problem and seems intent on maintaining it's position that the chip can be disabled sufficiently with the software they provide. As of yet, they have not addressed the concerns that another program could re-activate the system and, or, it is completely disabled by their software. Environmental Consciousness in Multinational Corporations
[ send me this paper ]
A 14 page paper discussing the shift in corporate environmental thinking in the past 20 years from one of minimum compliance to local regulations to adopting environmental responsibility as a matter of strategy. Multinational corporations in the past have been accused of fleeing to developing nations only to take advantage of weak environmental laws and greater attendant opportunity to operate outside the regulations they would face in nations of greater development. A more realistic view is that businesses most successful in many developing nations are environmentally-intensive ones such as petroleum refining and circuit board construction.
