Artemisia Gentileschi
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The artwork of Artemisia Gentileschi is a celebration of gender, with particular emphasis upon issues of feminism and patriarchal control. Indeed, the young Gentileschi portrays the perpetuation of feminism; not only are her artistic endeavors a solid reflection of her sentiments but so is the manner in which she reflects the outward quest for female reawakening. Gentileschi displays her craft well and does not hesitate to apply her talent as more of a social statement than one of mere visual appreciation. The writer discusses how thus is the case with her ongoing artistic assertion that there is truly no separation of the sexes in reality, short of the obvious physical differences; rather, her perpetual argument clearly makes the point that the female gender -- no matter how seemingly fragile and delicate -- is indeed just as much an emotionally strong and self-reliant individual as her socially-accepted male counterpart. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Artemisia Gentileschi's "Judith And Her Maidservant With The Head Of Holofernes"
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Artemisia Gentileschi's artwork possesses many important feminist components that, if not taken in their direct context, will be overlooked by the average observer. It is essential to also look beyond the young artist's obvious intention with regard to the history of gender, feminism and patriarchal control so as not to miss the grand but elusive subtleties. To be sure, Gentileschi's artistry incorporates a significant amount of blatancy while also implying considerable obscurity, which is a dichotomy that has served her well in relation to women's place in historical society. Judith and Her Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes provides a particularly unique insight into the relationships that existed between and among men, women, society and the outright expectations from them all. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Artful Definitions of the Minoan Society
[ send me this paper ]
(6 pp). When we try to investigate Minoan society
we encounter a number of problems regarding the
evidence. Because the climate is frequently wet,
most of the perishable evidence has disappeared
with the weather. This makes it hard to construct a
picture of Minoan society. We have some knowledge
about Minoan people, of course, but this is very
fragmentary: only little aspects of the Minoan
social life are ever revealed at one time, mainly
because the written materials are so few, and
because scholars can read only a very little of
this written evidence. Yet, it appears from their
archeological art, that the Minoans as a society
were much more advanced than others of their time.
Bibliography lists 5 sources.
