The Evolution Of The Striped Skunk
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. The Mephitis mephitis – also known as the striped skunk – shares a vast and colorful history with its other Mustelidae family members, all of which have historically been classified as weasels. This classification comes from the distinction of an absent upper fourth premolar carnassial notch and upper second molar, in addition to expanded scent glands. Interestingly, the evolution of these characteristics is suspected to be more a response to convergence rather than ancestral; in short, the skunk's evolution is thought to be derived from a blending of several traits instead of what existed in their ancient predecessors. As such, identifying the precise evolution of the striped skunk is not a cut-and-dried objective for scientists, inasmuch as it shares some characteristics with otters and badgers, as well. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
9 pages in length. Like all other species on the endangered list, the Indiana bat is fighting for its very existence. Due to man's encroachment – sometimes accidental, oftentimes blatant and deliberate – this particular type of bat is struggling to uphold its precarious place upon the life chain. Perhaps it is the uniqueness of this species that has caused it to become endangered, or maybe it is because mankind still does not understand the consequential impact his actions have in a synergistic sense to the ecosystem as a whole. No matter the cause, the Indiana bat – who was placed upon the endangered species list in 1967 due to a population decrease of a full fifty percent since the 1930s – is being helped by the establishment of protective reserves and legal enforcement. The Survival Strategies of Cats
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the survival strategies of cats. Cats, as well as other animals today, have developed different strategies for survival which include those needed for survival in the wild and the ultimate competition with natural space with man, and those needed for survival in domestic situations. In addition, strategies for cat and animal survival have also been developed by humans to help retain species threatened by the expansion of man’s urban life. The types of cats range from the larger game cats such as tigers and lions still in the wild and those cats which rely on humans for their existence in reserve, zoo and domestic environments. Depending on the environment, cats have adapted physically and in their behavior in order to further their survival.

The Therapeutic Value Of Pets
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Social theory has long attributed animals to being a life-altering component to otherwise traditional approaches. It has been acknowledged for some time now that they possess an inherent quality that encourages people to express their most suppressed emotions when they would not do so with any other human being. Animals are cornerstones of strength during the most difficult times in life, offering silent support with no strings attached. Indeed, as much as an individual might nurture a therapy animal, the animal provides just as much emotional nurturing in return. At-risk youth and the elderly, two separate populations that often feel the rest of world has given up on them, take solace in the company of animals. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

The Treatment Of Animals
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Man's ethical egoism has caused him significant problems throughout his relatively short reign on planet Earth; with very few exceptions, everything humanity has done, is doing or will do to progress as a species will come at the cost of other entities. This blatant disregard for living in harmony with the flora and fauna around him – which existed long before he ever did – is one of the most shameful of all human characteristics, particularly where animal treatment is concerned. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Under What Conditions Do Children's Attitudes Change While Visiting The Zoo?
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The purpose of this proposal is to examine the change in attitude of children who are told the truth about why animals live in zoos. Exposure to animals within a zoo setting is typically the first association children have with species beyond the domestic dog and cat. Giving them a truthful understanding of why wild animals are held in captivity for human enjoyment even though it serves as a tremendous detriment to the animal's physical and psychological well being is the first step in getting children interested in the humane treatment of animals at a very young age. Expectations of this qualitative research questionnaire include a change in attitude from the zoo being a fun place to see wild animals to one of sadness that wild animals are forced to live unhappy lives in unnatural surroundings just so people to look at them. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Wildlife rehabilitation clinics have significantly helped with the problem of addressing the fact that many wildlife species having nowhere left to go but straight into suburbia; however, their efforts are not taking shape quickly enough as a means by which to abate the overwhelming human ignorance in relation to wildlife knowledge and the irreparable harm that is occurring due to selfish actions. Vicious Dogs And Ownership
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Dogs are considered to be the first animal ever domesticated by humans; bones found in campsites dating as far back as the late Stone Age have been a common discovery. Indeed, the remains of these dogs resemble at least five different varieties of the pets we know today. It is thought that the wild dog, being a scavenger, loitered around the campsites of hunters some one hundred thousand years ago; the hunters may have realized that pups raised in the camp became accustomed to their human companions while still maintaining their ability to hunt. Consequently, the dogs were allowed to participate in the chase and partake of the feast at the same time, ultimately being transformed into the rudimentary form of canine companions known today. However, the camaraderie and respect between man and dog born out of that natural progression has not effectively maintained its presence throughout the recent past, with dogs becoming the victim of human irresponsibility and mistreatment. This breakdown in admiration and affection from man's side has caused certain dog breeds to suffer the wholly unjustified and broad sweeping condemnation of being labeled as vicious. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
